Jefferson’s Einstein Medical Center in Elkins Park will close its emergency department on June 30.
Patients requiring emergency care should visit nearby hospital locations including Jefferson Abington Hospital or Jefferson Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia.
The closure is part of a plan involving multiple facilities in the area: MossRehab in Elkins Park will expand in-patient physical rehabilitation services, and the Einstein Medical Center’s acute care, surgical, and emergency room services will be relocated to Jefferson Abington Hospital and Einstein’s Medical Center in Philadelphia.
From Jefferson Health’s press release:
Beginning in June, in-patient rehabilitation patients at Jefferson Abington Hospital will begin receiving care at MossRehab at Elkins Park, leveraging the world-class rehabilitation services provided by MossRehab. The underutilized acute care, surgical and emergency services at Einstein Elkins Park and increased demand for physical rehabilitation services have created an opportunity to repurpose the Elkins Park campus to provide enhanced services through MossRehab. Forecasted growth for inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation services are expected to see significant growth over the next decade, both locally and nationally.
