Jefferson Health, currently a 32-hospital, $15 billion health system stretching from Eastern Pennsylvania into South Jersey, is considering moving its headquarters out of Philadelphia and into the suburbs, The Philadelphia Business Journal reported.
“One of the things we have to think about, as much as I hate to say it, is does it make sense for our headquarters to be [in Center City],” CEO Dr. Joseph Cacchione said during an interview, noting that a move is not imminent. “A third of our health system is in the Lehigh Valley, so there’s an inefficiency to that. So, we are looking at the potential of a new headquarters.”
Jefferson moved to its current headquarters at 1101 Market St. in 2019. The hospital system has 65,000 total employees and ranks among the country’s 15 largest nonprofit hospital groups based on revenue, The Journal said.
Cacchione did not say specifically where a new headquarters could be, but said Jefferson is looking to expand some of its clinical programs and possibly build new outpatient care centers in Montgomery County.
“We’re looking at that space very intently,” he said. “We probably don’t need more [hospital beds].… It’s more about how do we keep people out of the hospital and how do we create more access points.”
