Beyond the Castle Travel, a veteran-owned travel agency based in Huntingdon Valley, recently launched an initiative to honor a local veteran through the gift of travel.

Titled “Beyond the Uniform: A Recognition of Service”, the initiative’s goal is to recognize a servicemember whose continued impact deserves to be celebrated, Beyond the Castle Travel’s founder Julio Sanchez told Glenside Local.

Residents are able to nominate a veteran to receive a cruise for two. Self-nominations are welcome.

“After more than 24 years in the Army, I wanted to build something that went beyond simply promoting veteran discounts,” Sanchez said. “Beyond the Uniform is intended to tell veterans’ stories, recognize service, and give the community a direct role in choosing someone to honor.”

Sanchez, who retired from the military last year, said he’s looking to honor someone who has carried the spirit of service into their day-to-day through volunteerism, mentorship, advocacy, charitable efforts, and public service, among other endeavors.

“We wanted to recognize someone who has actively been taking part in coaching or mentoring youth, helping at food banks, things like that, on top of everything they’ve done for the military,” Sanchez said.

Sanchez expects to make the winning announcement on Veteran’s Day (November 11). He noted that the initiative has been sponsored by Aireserv and Elite Escapes.
