Emil Dix, a Huntingdon Valley Fire Company life member firefighter, was honored on Tuesday by the Lower Moreland Township board of commissioners for his 70th year of continuous service.
Dix, 91, received a firefighter’s ax and several commendations before a crowd of fellow firefighters and family. Last month, the fire department presented Dix with a years of service pin that was specially made as he was the first to reach member of the company to reach the milestone, according to FOX29.
Dix told FOX29 he has no plans to retire.
“It’s very much appreciated, especially from the guys you work with all these years,” he said. “It was a big secret, especially my family. They did it to me.”

From Huntingdon Valley Fire Company’s post:
Emil is 91 years young and currently serves as our company secretary. He has been a fire fighter and fire officer until ending his active firefighting in 2005. You will see his story in Fox 29 News tonight at 10 pm, and Channel 3 News at 11 pm tonight as both stations came to cover this presentation. We thank the LM commissioners for taking the time to honor him tonight on this incredible milestone as a volunteer professional firefighter.
