Chuck Amarfio opened Emergink Print and Shipping Center in Glenside in 2024.
The name “Emergink” represents the company’s function as well as a philosophy: Efficiency.
“Emergink does its best to make sure our jobs are out as fast as possible. That’s what our name means,” Amarfio told Glenside Local. “Sometimes after we’ve closed for the day, a customer will need an emergency print. We cater to those requests when we can. If it’s within our means, we’ll try to do it.”
A resident of Cheltenham Township since 2019, Amarfio has been a part of the printing business for over three decades. He says his previous jobs included working for big-box companies such as U-Haul and Staples.
“I screen printed most of the things you see on a U-Haul truck,” he said, noting that Emergink’s first location was in New Jersey.
Today, he runs the business with wife, Sanyi, and receives part-time help from his daughter when she’s on break from college. He said Emegink’s bread and butter has become shipping and handling services.
“We’re an authorized agent for FedEx, DHL, USPS, UPS, and the digital mailbox, iPostal,” he said. “The community is very cooperative. We do some of the signs from Cheltenham Township and local businesses ask us for anything they require: printing, shredding, shipping.”
As a means of giving back to the community, Emergink provides free shredding services the first week of each month. They also have a policy to offer pro bono services for any jobs less than $5.00 and they offer a 40% discount to new companies to help them get on their feet.
For Amarfio, the job’s greatest reward is bringing people’s passions to life, “whether that be a shirt, a birthday card, a graduation banner, or a family reunion t-shirt. Those are things people enjoy.”
“The industry has changed a lot over the years. Everything has gone from manual to digital. AI can now create graphic designs instead of someone spending hours behind a screen. They’ve been a great addition to print work,” he said. “Our doors are always open to help as much as we can. We just want to be a blessing to the community. We’re glad to be here for people who need us.”
Fun Fact: Amarfio is the father of Jael Sykes, a track standout during her time at Cheltenham High School, as well as Sam Sykes and Nick Edwards, who helped the Panthers to their 2019 state championship appearance on the football field.
