Maya Dvir, owner of Sorello Pasta and Pastries in Elkins Park, opened for business on Tuesday, July 28. Allicat’s Coffee House, which opened in November at 920 Township Line Road, shared the new eatery via Instagram last week.
A longtime pasta and pastry chef, Dvir said her first day went well.
“Yesterday was amazing. A lot of people from the neighborhood came to support us. It was so nice to meet people,” Dvir told Glenside Local.
An Israeli native, Dvir lived in Italy for 20 years before relocating with her family to Jenkintown, then Elkins Park for the past two years. She described Sorello’s menu as “small and seasonal” and her kitchen as “very Italian, for the moment.”

“I’m still bringing some things from my Israeli culture and my Moroccan heritage. It’s based on fresh pasta and fresh ingredients,” she said. “I’ve always worked in baking and pasta. I love to cook, I love the connection with people that food can bring, and I want to bring something like that to Elkins Park. I fell in love with the location the first time I visited the area.”
Dvir’s husband and two teenaged kids are helping out in the shop for the time being. The new eatery is located at 910 Township Line Road is the former home of The Cheesecake Lady, which relocated to Jenkintown in November.
