History with Chuck: Memories of Rizzo’s Restaurant & Pizzeria in Glenside

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, Rizzo’s Restaurant & Pizzeria in Glenside was once the place to go for pizza.

Rizzo’s opened in 1946 and served many Cheltenham and Abington high school students and alumni until its closing in 2008. T-shirts featuring the name and logo, like those pictured below, were popular as well.

Facebook comments about Rizzo’s include:

I worked there from 75-77 or so. Mama Rizzo was still alive and lived upstairs. It was still family owned and managed . What great memories.”

“My parents, for the very first time met my then friend and his parents, now husband of 51 years at Rizzos 1971”

“My favorite. They had the best pizza and milkshakes.”

“Rizzo’s had the best cheese steaks.”

“Yes I remember them well cheese steak and pizza never taste as good as it did back in those days…..”

“I love going to Rizzo’s ……catch a movie at the Keswick over to rizzo’s for some pizza and a drink…

Chuck recalls their pizza as being “Simply the best.” The space at 21 E. Glenside Aveue is now occupied by TreVi BYOB.
