Glenside Youth Athletic Club’s 11U baseball team brought home their second consecutive Southeastern PA Cal Ripken State Tournament title after defeating South Parkland 12-1 on Tuesday, July 2.
The win topped off a week which saw the Glenside Ghosts outscore their opponents 46-12 for a 5-1 record. The Ghosts outhit South Parkland 11-2 in the championship game.
South Parkland got on the board in the second inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Glenside came back with a five run second inning, punctuated by Will Winning’s first career home run.
The Ghosts added seven more runs in the bottom of the third to put the game out of reach. Pitcher Billy Sautter held South Parkland in check while contributing two hits and two runs at the plate. Nolan Ockenhouse and Scott Sliwinski each added a hit and two RBIs.
The win also continues a run of three consecutive appearances in the SEPA Cal Ripken State Final, including back-to-back victories in 2023 and 2024. The Ghosts will advance to the Cal Ripken Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament in Bridgwater, NJ in a couple of weeks.
“We’ve got such a fantastic group of kids. They have a such a unique combination of talent and youthful energy that’s contagious,” said head coach Steven Ockenhouse, who has coached the boys since their 8U days. “Their success is a testament to their commitment to each other, willingness to compete, and dedication to the game.”
The 11U Ghosts are coming off of their second consecutive Suburban Travel League Championship title as well.
“I told the team after the game that they deserve all the success that they achieved and that I’m most proud of the way they carry themselves. They demonstrate a respect for both the game and their opponents. I’m thrilled for these kids and proud to be along for the ride,” Ockenhouse said.
