Guardian Forensic Sciences in Abington assists with identification of man’s skeletal remains 4 months after they were found in a pond

Arthur Young and Katherine Cross of Guardian Forensic Sciences, located at 1021 Old York Road in Abington, played a role in the identification of a man whose skeletal remains were found in March in a pond in Towamencin Township, Pennsylvania, the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office announced today.

According to a press release, on March 18, a surveyor working in a small, wooded area in Towamencin came across a human skull. The Coroner’s Office and local police secured the scene and began a thorough investigation.

“Identifying skeletal remains is a meticulous process involving forensic anthropology, dental records (if available), DNA analysis, and other investigative techniques,” said Dr. Janine Darby, Montgomery County Coroner. “Since the discovery, we have been working diligently with forensic experts to establish the identity of the remains.”

The identification of Isaias Hernandez-Geronimo was made possible through DNA testing, officials said. Mr. Geronimo is survived by his wife, children, and extended family.

Officials said there is no indication of suspicious activity leading to his death, and the cause and manner of death will be documented as “Undetermined” for the time being.

“The family of Isaias Hernandez-Geronimo was notified of the identification prior to this announcement. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends during this difficult time,” said Dr. Darby. “The expeditious nature of identifying the decedent was due to the prompt action taken by several teams and cooperative engagement across agencies.”
