Gov Shapiro spent $5.5M on campaigning this year, recap of his highlights in 2024

Governor Josh Shapiro of Abington Township spent more than $5.5 million campaigning this year even though his name wasn’t on the ballot, Spotlight PA reported.

According to their story, Shapiro spent almost $1.3 million on consultants and “almost $1 million on a combination of private airfare, hotels, and event planning in 13 states, including Pennsylvania, alongside smaller expenditures on new cameras and online clothing retailers.”

“Throughout the 2024 election cycle, Governor Shapiro was a top surrogate for candidates up and down the ballot and campaigned tirelessly across the Commonwealth and in key swing states — working to defend every single seat of the State House Democratic majority and elect pro-freedom candidates at every level,” Shapiro’s spokesperson, Manuel Bonder, said in a statement.

Reports show that he ended November with more than $10.6 million in donations. The rest of the story is here.

All in all, 2024 has been a big year for Pennsylvania’s governor. In November, experts began touting him as a frontrunner for the 2028 presidential election.

In October, he was named the second most influential person in Philadelphia as he signed dozens of new bills into law (more details here and here) and made an appearance on The Daily Show (footage below):

In September, Shapiro was named the most popular government official in Pennsylvania with a higher favorability rating than Vice President Kamala Harris, former President Donald Trump, “and even Pennsylvania’s own superstar Taylor Swift,” according to a poll published by the InquirerNew York Times, and Siena College. That month, the Shapiro administration’s response to the collapse of the I-95 bridge in northeast Philadelphia last year was named a Top 12 finalist in the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ (AASHTO) 2024 America’s Transportation Awards competition. He also made an appearance on The View.

In August, he spoke at the Democratic National Convention after narrowly missing a vice presidential candidate nod.
