Moody Jones Gallery, located at 107b South Easton Road in Glenside, will celebrate the role of black women in the legacy of Juneteenth as part of its Phenomenal Women art show, which runs through June 30.
Zindzi Harley, creative consultant and former assistant curator at the African American Museum in Philadelphia, will lead a conversation with three female artists featured in the show.
The event will be held on Thursday, June 15 from 5:30pm – 8:00pm at the gallery. Artists Andromeda Cook, Jazlyne Sabree and Kassy Kova will join Harley in the discussion, which will be virtual from 6:30pm – 7:30pm pm via the gallery’s Facebook page and Instagram (@moodyjonesgallery) page.
The conversation will center on “the importance and history of black women in the legacy of Juneteenth,” Harley said, serving as a bridge between the works on exhibit and Juneteenth, a federal holiday celebrated on June 19 which marks slavery’s final demise in 1865.
“We will touch on their [the artists] individual practices, inspirations and their relationship or traditions with Juneteenth,” she said.
