Glenside VFW, GGPA to host Memorial Day ceremony on Monday

A traditional Memorial Day ceremony will be conducted at 11:00am on Monday, May 29 at the North Penn Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), 2519 Jenkintown Road in Glenside.

Open to the general public, the outdoor event will include speakers’ commemorative remarks and tributes to U.S. military personnel who died in America’s wars.

Participating in the program will be representatives of the Greater Glenside Patriotic Association (GGPA), which sponsors and conducts the community’s yearly, three-tier 4th of July celebration that includes a morning children’s event, an afternoon parade and after-dark fireworks.

Provided by the GGPA will be patriotic music by a mobile mini-concert band organ owned and operated by Dennis Robinson of Allentown.

With Tom Hermansen as its commander, the local VFW Post occupies a hallowed site, having been within the scene of The Battle of Edge Hill between Colonial and British troops on Dec, 7, 1777, during America’s Revolutionary War.
