Dori Fleekop, a resident of Glenside, an Upper Dublin graduate, and founder/owner of Bites & Blends in Dresher, recently became the owner of Wake Coffee Roasters in Ambler.
Fleekop said the transition came up naturally through Wake’s former majority owner Christina (pictured above left).
“The founders and original owners of Wake and I have been friends for awhile. My taking over came up as a way of passing on the brand and keeping it maintained. They were very particular about who would take over,” Fleekop said. “Christina is a mother of two so it’s been pretty chaotic for her. She really wanted to pass the brand along to someone who would cherish it.”
Aside from a handful of tweaks over the coming months, Fleekop said he expects to keep the menu, the staff, and the roaster as is.
“We have great staff at both locations. Operationally, nothing will change. We’ll have menu updates, including our fall seasonal launch which kicks off next week, and we’ll have a winter menu,” he said. “After that, we’ll make smaller updates and additions, but in terms of the roast profiles, those will remain a constant.”
Fleekop noted that both brands—Wake Coffee and Bites & Blends—are still independent entities, though Bites & Blends will have a new coffee menu starting in October to be more aligned with Wake Coffee’s offerings.
“We’ll have beans for purchase at Bites & Blends as well,” he said. “With Wake, I’m focused on the wholesale side of the business. A lot of our customers are regulars at both locations.”
