Glenside native Brett Gordon, head football coach at La Salle College High School in Wyndmoor, has been named the Easternpafootball.com Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year.
From the announcement:
In December, the Explorers brought home the PIAA state championship after defeating District 7 champ Pittsburgh Central Catholic 34-20 at Cumberland Valley High School.
Coach Gordon, 46, was hired in 2024 and is a 1998 La Salle and 2002 Villanova graduate. He was as an assistant coach at the school for 14 years (2005-2014, 2016-2019) and served under two of the former head coaches, including his father, Drew, who retired in 2015 after nine years at the helm of the Explorers.
La Salle won its only other PIAA state football championship in 2009 with Drew as their head coach and Brett as their offensive coordinator.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s coverage, they are the only father-son duo to win state championships as head coaches in the 36-year history of the PIAA football state playoffs.
