Glenside candidate Ellen Thornton Staerk to take aim at Abington issues

Tackling the issues of rising local taxes and a one-minded, controlled Township government will be among her priority concerns as a new Glenside Ward 13 commissioner, said Ellen Thornton Staerk while campaigning for that office in the election of November 7.

Stating that her Glenside Ward deserves and needs a commissioner who is caring, capable and committed, Mrs. Staerk said other township points that need to be addressed are public safety, high density zoning and failing, less safe public schools.

“I clearly understand that the Abington commissioners and the school district board are separate governing and taxing entities,” said Mrs. Staerk, “but that doesn’t mean representatives of each group cannot meet periodically to address matters that affect township residents, including the high school riot
of September14.  As a commissioner, I will work to arrange such liaisons.”

Making her first bid for public office, Mrs. Staerk is a local businesswoman, long-time realtor and community volunteer who lives on Sylvania Ave. in Glenside.  She was nominated for township commissioner in the primary election of last May 17.
