Fort Washington Generals baseball wins legion title in first summer with GNALBL

The top-seeded Fort Washington Generals defeated fifth-seeded JP Mascaro 6-5 at Upper Dublin High School on Sunday, July 14.

According to The Reporter, the program has 23 Lower Montco Legion (LML) league titles to its name and joined the Greater Norristown American Legion Baseball League (GNALBL) after the LML didn’t field enough teams to have a season this summer.

“All throughout the playoffs, we’ve had runners on but yesterday when we had our runners on, we didn’t prevail,” Fort Washington center fielder Eric Berman told The Reporter. “Today, we prevailed when our runners were in scoring position.”

The Generals’ head coach is Gary Bonitatibus, a 1975 graduate of Cheltenham High School.

“We played seven games in seven days, we were definitely tired but of course we wanted to get that run in and take it to the bottom of the seventh or even an eighth inning,” Haulers center fielder Liam Greenberg said. “After the first inning, we knew the zone was tight but it was consistent. Our approach was to drive your pitch or hand it to the next guy.”

Fort Washington won LML titles in 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022, The Reporter said. They will move on the Region 3 tournament, which begins Friday at Marple Newtown High School.
