Ryan Ambler of Abington takes home Premier Lacrosse League championship, Matt Rambo of Glenside feat. by ESPN ahead of the game

Matt Rambo, a Glenside native and La Salle College High School graduate, competed against Abington High School graduate Ryan Ambler in the Premier Lacrosse League’s Cash App Championship at Subaru Park in Chester on Sunday,

The #2 seeded Utah Archers took down the #4 seeded Maryland Whipsnakes 12-8, according to the PLL’s website. Ambler plays for the Archers, Rambo for the Whipsnakes.

The title game was Rambo’s third after winning PLL championships in 2019 and 2020. He was named league MVP in 2019 and scored the first goal of Sunday’s game:

Ambler is the current captain of the Archers and was a three-time all-Ivy League selection at Princeton. In the 2020 PLL Championship Series, he registered a career-high four goals (nine points). You can check out his highlights from 2021 below:

The winner of the inaugural PLL Jim Brown MVP Award at the close of the 2019 season, Matt Rambo was a driving force in his team’s back-to-back title wins. Rambo finished the 2019 season with a league-high 49 points and 23 goals and scored the game winning goal in overtime of the Championship Game. Rambo continued his dominance into 2020 at the Championship Series en route to another title. Rambo led the PLL in both points (25) and assists (18) and was named to the All-Tournament Team. Rambo is a Glenside, Pennsylvania native where he attended LaSalle College High School. While playing at the University of Maryland, Rambo was a 3x First Team All-Big Ten selection, a 2x USILA All-American, the 2016 Big Ten Tournament Most Valuable Player, the 2017 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year, the 2017 Enners Award recipient for the Nation’s Most Outstanding Player and the 2017 Tewaaraton Award Winner. Rambo was named to the 2019 PLL All-Star Game and took home the Eamon McEneaney Attackman of the Year. Rambo’s favorite food is a hometown Philly cheesesteak and he is a big fan of the film, Law Abiding Citizen.

Ryan Ambler played 12 games during 2019 and notched an impressive 9 goals while picking up 12 ground balls. Ambler peaked with an impressive four goals in a week 11 matchup versus Redwoods LC. Ambler is an Abington, PA native who attended Abington High School. While at Princeton, Ambler was a co-captain and a three-time All-Ivy League selection. Ambler registered 9 points at the PLL Championship Series in 2020, including 4 goals.
