Gov. Shapiro, Rep. Dean release statements on the passing of Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’

Governor Josh Shapiro of Abington and Congresswoman Madeleine Dean of Glenside responded to President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed by the U.S. House today by a vote of 218-214.

The bill now heads to President Trump’s desk, where he is expected to sign it on July 4.

The Shapiro administration previously released estimates of dropped Medicaid and SNAP benefits if the bill is passed. According to PBSthe legislation contains about $4.5 trillion in tax cuts.

Statewide, nearly 144,000 Pennsylvanians who receive SNAP could lose their access to critical food assistance, while 310,000 Pennsylvanians could lose Medicaid coverage, according to the administration. In Dean’s 4th district, which includes all greater Glenside municipalities*, the administration estimates that 2,115 will lose SNAP benefits and 10,569 will lose Medicaid coverage.
