Congresswoman Madeleine Dean of Glenside appeared on a segment of MSNBC Reports to discuss the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, September 15.
On July 30, Dean was named to a task force to investigate Trump’s first assassination attempt, which took place on July 13.
During today’s interview, Dean said “I am stunned, I am shocked, and this is sobering. I condemn any political violence, I condemn all violence, but this insane level of political violence came so close to yet again potentially wounding or killing former President Trump.”
She went on to say she hopes that the Secret Service and the bipartisan task force will “get at the truth” and “make sure we are able to restore faith in institutions.”
According to a recent update from NBC News, the suspect, identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was taken into custody today and charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
According to NBC, Routh hid in bushes and pointed an AR-style rifle with a scope at Trump, who was about 400 yards away. Court records show more than 100 criminal counts have been filed against Routh in North Carolina.
“I am relieved that former president Donald Trump is safe, yet deeply disturbed that his life was once again threatened,” Dean said in a post. “Our bipartisan task force is united — in condemning political violence of all kinds, restoring faith in our institutions, and safeguarding every American in their civic engagement.”
