Former Cheltenham Township asst. fire marshal pleads guilty to sexual assault, burglary

Albert Sergio Jr., 59, a former assistant fire marshal in Cheltenham Township, has pleaded guilty to charges of attempted involuntary deviate sexual intercourse by force, burglary and attempted burglary, The Pottstown Mercury reported.

Sergio was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in April. He faces 5 to 10 years in prison followed by a five-year probationary period. A judge deferred formally imposing the sentence until it is determined whether Sergio meets the criteria to be classified as a sexually violent predator, The Mercury said.

Sergio’s victim alleged that he was “naked, intoxicated and armed with a knife,” police said in a statement, adding that “(The victim) stated the knife was a very large kitchen knife, describing it to be approximately twelve inches in length. (The victim) stated that she became frightened and screamed.”

After she fled into a bathroom, Sergio forced the door open and led the victim to a bedroom at knifepoint where he attempted to sexually assault her. He later fled the scene, The Mercury said.

Following an extensive search, he was found hiding in a wooded area in the 3500 block of State Road in Bucks County.

As of April, Sergio was listed on the Cheltenham Township website as the Code Administrator and had been working for the township for 11 years, according to NBC10‘s previous coverage.
