Former Abington girls’ lacrosse coach inducted into the Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame

Dee Cross, an Oreland resident and former girls’ lacrosse coach at Abington Senior High School, has been inducted into the Montgomery County Coaches Hall of Fame.

She coached 13 seasons with Abington before taking over at Upper Dublin High School in 2007.

“Coach Cross is in her 31st year leading girls’ lacrosse—13 at Abington and 18 at Upper Dublin—amassing a 323–216–9 career record, including 233–97 at UD,” Upper Dublin School District said. “Her teams have captured nine Suburban One League championships, made 15 District 1 appearances, and reached the PIAA state tournament three times, while she has coached five All-Americans along the way.”


In 1999, Cross was inducted into the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame. From her biography:

An all-suburban first team high school player in 1976 and 1977 at Norristown (Pa.) High, Cross went on to an outstanding career at Shippensburg State College, earning team MVP honors in 1979, 1980, and 1981. In her junior year, Cross was named to the U.S. women’s national team.

After college, Cross played club lacrosse for South 1 and Philly 1. In 1988, she captained the national club champions and earned the Beth Allen Award. Internationally, Cross played in the U.S. women’s national team program for a combined nine years. She was a member of the U.S. World Cup team in both 1986 and 1989, and served as captain of the 1989 squad. The U.S. won the silver medal in 1986 and the gold medal in 1989.

Cross was also the assistant coach of the U.S. squad for two years and served as team manager once. She has coached at Abington (Pa.) High since 1987. Cross has served as the treasurer of the Philadelphia Women’s Lacrosse Association, as a USWLA selector and clinician, and has helped develop summer league play in the Philadelphia area. In 1999, she was inducted to the US Lacrosse Pennsylvania Chapter Hall of Fame. She resides in Oreland, Pa.

Cross was inducted during the 23rd annual Induction Banquet on Tuesday, November 25. John Cresswell, Bob Koch and Mickey McDaniel were part of the induction class alongside Cross.
