Forecasters upgrade Winter Storm Watch to Winter Storm Warning | Jenkintown, Lower Moreland, Upper Moreland, and Springfield issue Snow Emergencies

The National Weather Service has updated their Winter Storm Watch to a Winter Storm Warning, effective at 7:00pm Saturday, January 24 through Monday, January 26 at 1:00pm in greater Glenside and surrounding areas.

According to their update today, heavy snow and mixed precipitation are expected. Total snow
is predicted to be between 11 and 15 inches with ice accumulations around three tenths of an inch.

“Bundle up if you’re heading out tonight! An arctic airmass will filter into the region ahead of Sunday’s winter storm. Temperatures will fall through tonight into the single digits and low 10s by Saturday morning. Northwest winds 10-20 mph will result in wind chills of -10° to 0° and as low as -20° in the Poconos,” the agency said in a post.

From their post at approximately 3:00pm on Friday:

Snowfall amounts have trended down slightly, but ice amounts have trended up slightly for some areas. Regardless of exactly how much snow falls, our message is the same: Significant impacts are expected for our entire area!

Snow will begin after midnight late Saturday night into early Sunday morning. The peak of the storm and heaviest precip will occur during the daytime Sunday into Sunday evening, then wind down into Monday morning. A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for our entire region. Very cold conditions expected through next weekend.
