Fitman, owner of the Fitman Performance & Physique Center in Roslyn, says that the best supplements are actually not sold in stores.
“The supplement industry makes millions each year,” Fitman said. “They sell products that offer incredible promises. In my naive days, I used to spend boatloads of money on these supplements. You shouldn’t be surprised when I tell you that I never saw any of those big promises materialize.”
“It can be hard for someone to ignore the hype and not want to purchase these supplements. But the vast majority of your results will come down to only three supplements.”
Supplement 1: Hard Work
“Hard work cannot be replaced because it is one of the secrets to success,” Fitman said. “There is talent and there is work ethic. Some people have talent. But, it takes a strong work ethic to maximize it. Michael Jordan and the Bulls won 6 championships not only because they had talent but also because they worked hard.”
“Look at the amount of great, natural athletes who have amazing talent but zero work ethic. Most hit a wall during their career when their talent could take them no further. There are also many athletes who do not have the same level of natural talent as elite athletes. But many of those average athletes still become very successful because they put in the hard work.”
“When you apply hard work to building your body or becoming a better athlete, that work will eventually pay off. But to maximize your hard work, you must also take daily doses of supplement number two.”
Supplement 2: Consistency
Fitman said of the three supplements that you need to be successful, consistency is the one that will ultimately determine your success.
“If you are inconsistent with your hard work, your results will be lackluster. Think about that person at the gym who you see five times one week and zero times the next week. They only think about getting consistent when they are about to go on vacation or have an event coming up!”
“Think of that person who eats healthy for one day, then hits the local fast-food joints for the rest of the week,” Fitman said. One day of great eating cannot outweigh 6 days of lousy eating. Inconsistent habits will build an incomplete physique.”
“Now, even with the best levels of consistency, dream bodies are not built overnight. There is one final supplement you must take daily to be successful.”
Supplement 3: Patience
“Patience is not popular in our microwave society,” Fitman said. “Amazing physiques require time to develop, but most people want overnight results. Why do you think cosmetic surgeons are so popular?”
“When someone does not like how they look, and they want to fix it quickly, they can go to the cosmetic surgeon. The surgeon can give a woman a flat stomach and a big bubble butt in one visit. Overnight you could go from looking out of shape to a real-life Jessica Rabbit.”
“But the results do not last. Cosmetic surgery does not change your eating, training, sleeping, or stress management habits. If your mindset and habits do not change, cosmetic surgery cannot save you. I’ve seen the folks who eventually end up right back where they started, with a big gut and a lighter wallet. I’m not anti-cosmetic surgery, but I am pro-reality.”
“Work hard, be consistent, and stay patient. You will win in time.”
