Elkins Park resident’s Kia badly damaged after attempted theft, at least one vehicle stolen in Cheltenham area

David Coe of Elkins Park was interviewed by NBC10 after his 2022 Kia was rendered undriveable after being broken into early Friday morning.

According to NBC10, at least one vehicle was stolen the same night, and Cheltenham police believe the incidents are connected to a TikTok trend that targets Kia and Hyundai cars.

“We got a call last night and the police came to our door knocking, like, ‘do you own this Kia?’ So we found out it was broken into,” Coe told NBC10. “We came down and the first thing I see is the passenger side window all smashed in and the glass splattered everywhere.”

The steering column and ignition were ripped out before the thieves realized the newer model was less susceptible to theft.
