Dulce Candles in Willow Grove Park Mall featured by CBS News

Saniyah Thompson, owner of Dulce Candles in the Willow Grove Park Mall, was recently featured by CBS News.

The shop sells handmade soy candles and custom candle cakes. Saniyah’s mother and grandmother help her run the business.

“So, this is mom, my right hand,” Thompson said. “She’s usually here at the register, checking people out, making candles. My grandma helps me from time to time with the wafers. She’s pretty good with all the extra stuff.”

From their description on the mall’s website:

Dulce Candles was created by a 17-year-old African- American and Puerto Rican High School Senior with a 3.95 GPA. Growing up Niyah knew at a young age she wanted to own her own business, but in high school began her love for candles and smells goods. A good smelling candle or wax melt could easily change her mood after a rough day at school.

When the pandemic hit, she saw the wave of new businesses starting and used it as motivation to take the first step into starting her own! After some research and some experimentation, she created a few different types of candles in her parents’ home. When the 1st batch sold out in 4 days, Dulce Candles was born!
