From Dr. Scriven’s message:

Dear Cheltenham Community –

We’re writing to update you on a tragedy that has befallen our community.

On Thursday evening, Glenside second grader Moriah Strickland was struck by a car in Abington near Township Line Rd. and Cadwalader Ave. She was taken to Jefferson Abington Hospital, then transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, and remains in critical condition.

A gymnast, Moriah is a valued member of the Glenside community. She is an energetic, happy little girl who loves art, exemplifies Glenside’s school agreements, and is very kind and responsible. Moriah’s family thanks the community for the supportive showing they have received so far.

Our thoughts and positive affirmations are with the family at this incredibly difficult time.

We understand this is a profoundly emotional and challenging time, and we are committed to helping your children and our staff navigate their emotions. Glenside received additional administrative, counseling, and teaching support on Friday as news of the accident spread. And In the coming days, students and staff at Glenside and Elkins Park, where the student’s sibling attends, can receive additional counseling services if they need assistance coping. The schools will also continue to receive additional administrative and faculty support.

If your child requires immediate assistance or has specific questions, please do not hesitate to have them reach out to their school counselor, who can provide guidance, resources, and support.

Respectfully,
Dr. Brian W. Scriven
Superintendent of Schools

Principal
