State Representative Madeleine Dean took time to speak with Cheltenham High School students last week through a Zoom call. The students were members of Jennifer Pollack’s Advanced Placement United States Government class, and the opportunity was organized by the non-partisan Committee of Seventy.

Some of the senior students present for the Zoom session are eligible to vote in their first election this November, and were able to ask questions of Dean regarding her experiences as a reelected Congresswoman. Questions included youth disillusionment toward politics, lack of action on issues such as climate change, drug use, and gun violence, and Representative Dean’s candidacy as a teenager in Glenside.

Dean encouraged students interested in politics to get involved in the political process. She also spoke about her son’s battles with addiction.

Dean delivered the commencement address at Salus University in May 2021, and spoke about education at SCI Phoenix state prison in November 2021.
