Cheltenham triple jump standout commits to Clemson University

Jordan Sowell, a senior member of Cheltenham High School’s track and field program, recently announced his decision to continue his academic and athletic career at Clemson University in South Carolina.

Considered the greatest triple jumper in Panther history, Sowell recorded a personal-best mark of 51 feet, 1 inch in January to become the United States’ best in that event. Sowell, who used his last attempt to shatter Carlton Lavong’s 2010 state mark of 50-6.75, won the event by almost six feet.

More recently, Sowell took fourth with a 14.44m (47-4 ½) in the Penn Relays’ High School Boys Triple Jump Championships this weekend. He was the highest American finisher amidst a loaded international field of competitors.
