Devin Nugent, an Abington native and a sophomore member of the University of Pittsburgh’s track and field team, clocked a winning time of 50.84 seconds in the Penn Relays 400-meter hurdles race on Thursday, April 5.
“It didn’t go how I thought it would,” Nugent, who graduated from North Penn High School, told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “It was just an off race, but I just kept calm, I just kept my arms moving like my coach told me to do, and it worked out in my favor.”
Nugent’s older sister, Leah, won the high school girls’ 400-meter hurdles title for Abington in 2010. Six years later, she ran the event at the Olympics for Jamaica.
