Just received from the Cheltenham School District:
The bedroom constructed on the stage of the Cedarbrook Middle School auditorium appears typical in every way to the naked eye. In fact, it could double as a set for a play. But to look closer will be shocking. What looks like a water bottle or hairbrush may actually be a “diversion safe” used to stash drugs and drug-related paraphernalia.
The Cheltenham School District has partnered with the Cheltenham Township and Lower Gwynedd Police Departments to stage a “Mock Teen Bedroom” to bring such tactics into the open so parents and guardians know what to look for.
The interactive experience challenges parents and caregivers to find more than 100 hidden or hard-to-spot signs of drug and alcohol abuse, mental-health problems, unhealthy relationships or potential school violence.
Center for Humanistic Change is staging the event and will be joined by other community organizations.
See the Mock Bedroom today from 6 to 8 PM at the Cedarbrook Middle School, 300 Longfellow Rd., Wyncote, Pa. 19095.
