Cheltenham School District to bus non-public school students

During a special meeting last night, the Cheltenham School Board voted to provide busing to students who live in the district but attend non-public schools. While the Cheltenham School District will be starting the 2020-2021 school year virtually, many non-public schools will be having in-school instruction.

Public school districts are required to provide transportations for non-public school district students normally. The virtual model being used by most districts for the start of the school year has led to some not offering transportation to those attending non-public schools.

The video and minutes aren’t available yet, so we do not know the vote, just that a majority voted to provide the service.

Prior to the meeting, the district’s superintendent announced via email that fall sports would be suspended. The formal announcement was made during the meeting.
