Cheltenham police warn residents of uptick in home repair fraud

The Cheltenham Township Police Department announced today that it has received an increase of reports regarding contractor fraud.

According to the department, several surrounding communities have been experiencing an increase in reports as well.

“Often, after or during a small repair, the homeowner will be told that an immediate repair is necessary and will be given a ‘discounted rate’ if they pay a deposit that day,” the department said in a post. “That work is either completely unnecessary or the scammer will simply take your payment and never return. Please use due diligence and seek second opinions when you are in need of home repair.”
