Cheltenham grad Stephen Winneberger receives Medal of Valor for role in condominium shootout

Stephen Winneberger, a 2006 graduate of Cheltenham High School and Sergeant of the Limerick Township Police Department, was recently honored by Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele with a Medal of Valor for his efforts in protecting the public during a 2022 gun-laden standoff at a condominium complex.

As Winneberger (pictured far left) and fellow officers entered the complex, a man fired at least 17 gunshots at them before he was subdued by a non-fatal gunshot to his shoulder and taken into custody.

“All of these officers performed admirably and heroically that day, eliminating the threat to themselves, their fellow officers and all of the hundreds of residents at that condominium complex,” Steele said during a ceremony.
