Before the Snow Falls, Check Your Curb for Plow Damage

If you own your own home with a sidewalk and curb out front, you might want to think about taking a photo of it before a predicted snowstorm. In Pennsylvania, property owners are responsible for repairing damage to curbs and sidewalks, unless they can prove someone else caused the damage.

We suggest using your smartphone and taking a few shots of your curb just in case. In theory, you can use the images as evidence when your township or borough inspects your curb and demands a fix. It can cost $50 per linear foot or more — much more. Failure to comply with a complaint can result in hefty fines or even jail.
