Application submitted to build convenience store at former Rockledge Pub, hearing scheduled for Aug. 19

Rockledge Borough will host a pair of Zoning Hearings in August and September.

The first will take place on Monday, August 19 at 7:00pm in Borough Hall and will involve the property at 7 Huntingdon Pike, the former site of the Rockledge Pub which closed earlier this year.

According to borough manager Bryan Poster, the applicant, Ahmed Darsalim, wants to build a convenience store on that lot, which is owned by Sanad Properties LLC. Darsalim plans to lease the property.

Poster noted that the current application is the third of its kind, and that plans by previous applicants fell through because of parking issues.

“One was going to be a sweets shop and they ended up withdrawing after the hearing. The second was a hookah bar and they were denied,” Poster said. “With commercial buildings, you need X number of spots per occupant so that’s been the issue. There’s just not much space over there.”

The second hearing has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 18 due to a scheduling conflict with the applicant, who intends to pave the grassy lot behind the building at 612 Huntingdon Pike.

The second hearing was originally scheduled for Monday, August 19.
