Annual Rotary Special Athletes Volleyball Tournament, banquet this Saturday

The annual Rotary Special Athletes Volleyball Tournament will be held this Saturday from 8:45am to 2:30pm at the Bryn Athyn Church School, 600 Tomlinson Road, Bryn Athyn.

Rotary Special Athletes was established by the Glenside Rotary Club’s Kerry Lerraris, an Arcadia graduate and special education teacher. She’s been running the program for 30 years.

“The teams all have really great names and it’s a really neat day,” Steve Vahey, a Glenside Rotarian, said. “A lot of the special athletes were kids when Kerry started with them. It’s a really nice program. Their parents are older now and it turns into a social event for the families.

“They have a banquet afterwards. Every year we provide them with a little bit of funding for that banquet. Kerry does all the volunteer work and pretty much runs things by herself,” Vahey said.

The event is looking for volunteers to score keep, line judge, and help with the event’s arts and crafts,
food services, and, last but not least, cheering on the teams.
