Abington resident and school counselor publishes second book inspired by her children

Katie Nagy is an Abington resident, a certified school counselor, humane education specialist, dog bite prevention educator, and a children’s book author.

Inspired by her children’s experiences with the family’s many foster animals, she published her first book, “Caleb’s Kittens”, in 2020, and her second book, “Emily’s Turtles”, in 2021.

“When I was in my Humane Education Specialist certification program, I had to write a humane-themed children’s story. I immediately thought about my son and how he loved to help me foster kittens,” Nagy said. “My professor for the class loved the story, and being a published author herself, encouraged me to have it published.”

After her position at the Montgomery County SPCA was eliminated due to the pandemic, she decided to look into the publishing process.

“I chose to self-publish on Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing. I worked with an amazing illustrator and my kids had a blast seeing the story come to life on the pages of the book,” she said. “After publishing Caleb’s Kittens, my daughter insisted I write a book about her. She couldn’t be outdone by her big brother so that’s how Emily’s Turtles became my next project.”
