The Abington Township Police Department recently released details of an armed bank robbery on the 1300 block of Old York Road on Tuesday, January 9.

At 3:27pm, Abington police responded to a report involving two armed suspects and their vehicle. Shortly thereafter, officers located the vehicle in the area of Meetinghouse Road at Fox Chase Road.

The Department said the suspects fled when officers attempted to stop the vehicle, causing several minor accidents before colliding with an Abington police car at the intersection of Meetinghouse and Jenkintown Roads. Both suspects attempted to flee on foot but were quickly apprehended by officers.

Following the suspects’ arrests, police successfully recovered the money stolen from the bank during the robbery. A handgun was recovered close to the location where one of the suspects was captured.

Police have not specified the bank that was robbed. More information will be provided as it becomes available, the Department said. Stay tuned.
