Officer Eliana Carino was highlighted by the Abington Police Department in a “Meet APD Monday” feature.
Carino will complete her first year with the Department on October 18. Born and raised in Philadelphia, she served as a Philadelphia Police Officer for two years prior to joining Abington. Carino, who is bilingual, has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology from Immaculata College, and is an army veteran who served as Military Police in Guantanamo Bay.
As a child, she recalls seeing mostly male officers until she saw Philadelphia police officer Isabel Nazario on duty. Observing a female in a male-dominated profession motivated Eliana to inspire other women to do the same.
Carino’s favorite part of policing is the opportunity to create positive relationships with the community. She is currently a member of the Crisis Negotiations Unit, and hopes to join the Tactical Team or the K9 Unit in the future.
Carino says she is grateful to the Department and Township residents for being so welcoming.
