Abington police commend Sgt Fallon, Ofc Diaz for the arrest of a wanted burglar who was planning to hit a Glenside jewelry store

The Abington Township Police Department honored Sergeant Joe Fallon and Officer Andres Diaz for the arrest of a wanted burglar who was planning to complete a burglary at a Glenside jewelry store in July.

According to police, Sergeant Fallon and Officer Diaz were patrolling the Glenside section of Abington Township on July 23 at 1:59am when they observed a suspicious male in the parking lot of the 7-11 store at Easton Road and Keswick Avenue. The male quickly left on foot after spotting the officers.

The suspect was then located on Keswick Avenue and initially provided false information about his identity. Fallon and Diaz were able to positively identify him through an active arrest warrant out of Collegeville for a jewelry store burglary earlier this year.

The subject was handcuffed and searched, during which a walkie talkie, a pair of work gloves, a headlamp, rubber gloves, and a pocketknife were located. According to the report, the suspect would not explain to officers how he arrived in the area or what he was doing there.

During a subsequent interview, the suspect admitted plans to burglarize a nearby jewelry store.

“Officers recognize that it’s hard to know the crimes or events that are prevented through proactive, intelligence-based, community-oriented, policing,” the department said in a post. “But in this particular incident, we know definitively that a commercial burglary was prevented by the excellent police work of Sergeant Fallon and Officer Diaz. The only thing better than commending an officer for excellent police work following a crime, is being able to commend them for preventing it.”

In November 2023, Sergeant Fallon, who is also a Task Force Officer with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), was honored by the Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #5 for being one of the lead investigators to dismantle a violent drug trafficking organizations operating in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.
