Legendary DJ Bob Perkins of Glenside to receive Lifetime Achievement Award at the Montco Jazz Festival on Sept 19

Bob Perkins, a Wyncote resident and legendary Philadelphia jazz DJ, will be honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the third annual Montco Jazz Festival on Thursday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

The presentation will include renowned trumpeter and Temple director of jazz studies Terell Stafford, followed by a performance from saxophonist Josh Lee and his big band, the Extended Family.

“I’m glad somebody still remembers me,” Perkins, now 90, told the Inquirer. “I hope that somebody would like my input to get these stories on the air.”

A staple on Philadelphia radio for over half a century, Perkins retired in April 2023. His familiar tagline “BP with the GM” (“Bob Perkins with the Good Music”) was also heard through Temple University’s WRTI-FM (90.1) for 25 years leading up to his retirement.

The 2003 inductee into the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia Hall of Fame is also a 2016 Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame honoree. He has a plaque on The Walk of Fame in downtown Philadelphia, has been invited to the White House twice, and has earned over forty different honors and awards from major government, artistic, journalistic and community organizations.

You can check out his newest project, a podcast titled “Stay Tuned with Bob Perkins“, which features interviews, stories, and more.
