Abington police arrest burglary suspect with ‘lengthy criminal history’

The Abington Township Police Department announced the arrest of Darryl Percy of Philadelphia for breaking into a home in the 1800 block of Guernsey Avenue on Wednesday, February 14.

At approximately 12:15pm, a witness called 911 after observing a suspicious male on the porch of the home and reported hearing glass breaking near the front door, according to police.

Officers saw a broken windowpane in the front door upon arrival, then observed a male inside the home who initially attempted to flee, but was quickly taken into custody.

The homeowners were not home at the time and did not know the intruder, police said. The suspect was identified and found to be in possession of gloves, burglary tools, a fictious police badge, handcuffs, and a bag containing property belonging to the victims.

Percy had been scheduled for a 1:00pm hearing at district court for a case in which he was accused of threatening his former employer, according to police. He has been charged with burglary and related offenses and is currently awaiting arraignment.

He has a lengthy criminal history which includes multiple burglary convictions, police noted.
