Abington Monthly Meeting (AMM) will celebrate “World Quaker Day: Love Your Neighbor” on Sunday, October 5 at 10:00am at Abington Monthly Meeting Meetinghouse located at 520 Meetinghouse Road in Jenkintown.
World Quaker Day, established by the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC) is an annual event to connect the global Quaker community. On the first Sunday in October, Quakers around the world will be supporting and welcoming neighbors, sharing messages of love, connecting with other faith communities, and building connections. This year’s theme is Love Your Neighbor. Inspired by “In times when crisis, conflicts, and untruths and unfairness seem to dominate, let’s see what Love can do,” Love Your Neighbor encourages us to “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
The event is free and open to the public, childcare is available, and the Meetinghouse is handicap accessible. Parking is available in front of the building and across Greenwood Avenue at the Abington Friends School (AFS) Triangle Building.
Worship begins at 10:00am and will be followed by a Community Lunch at approximately 11:00am. Friends will be available to answer questions about Quakerism and provide tours of the buildings and Abington Friends Arboretum.
From the announcement:
Abington Monthly Meeting seeks to create a faith community that is welcoming to all, without regard to any religious belief or creed. Our meetings for worship are open to those who agree to sit in quiet reflection and seek connection with God (Spirit) in a community of fellow seekers. Our Quaker meeting intends to foster an environment of inclusion where all can feel safe, valued, cared for, and given an opportunity to form connections with one another.
Abington Friends Meeting values the diversity of humanity, which includes differences in sex, age, race, ethnicity, national origin, range of abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, financial means, education, and political perspectives. Our traditional testimonies of Peace, Simplicity, Integrity, Equity and Justice, Stewardship, and Community guide our lives and decisions.
