Abington grad, Lions’ running back playing in NFC divisional matchup today

Craig Reynolds, a 2014 graduate of Abington High School, is playing for the Detroit Lions in their NFC divisional playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, January 21.

The Lions won their first playoff game in 32 years last week. Reynolds, now 27, joined Detroit after playing one season for the Jacksonville Jaguars (2020) and one season for the Washington Commanders (2019).

The running back averaged 4.1 yards a carry for a total of 179 yards for the 2023 season.

“I think a true test of someone’s character shows up not when things are really good but when things are down there in the valley, and that’s when Craig really literally – I would say and coach (Kevin) Conlin I think would agree – took the entire team on his back,” former Abington football coach Tim Sorber said. “It was real simple for me to call plays, give it to him – power right, power left. That’s when he really emerged. He was a good player before, but that’s when he became a special player because he took that team on his back, and we ended up going to the final four in District 1, we ended up with 10 wins. He had over 2,000 yards rushing, 30 touchdowns.”

His father, Eric Reynolds, Sr., was a 1,000-yard rusher at Abington.
