Plans for “J Pot”, a hot pot restaurant with a revolving sushi bar at the former Marco Polo Ristorante & Bar site at Elkins Park Square, have been delayed due to a Stop Work Order issued by Cheltenham Township.
According to Lauren Walter, the township’s public information officer, ownership did not apply for a sprinkler permit to modify the current system.
“While the sprinkler company was performing tests in other portions of the property, the contractors for the new restaurant cut a piece of the sprinkler pipes to change the pipe diameter and length,” Walter told Glenside Local. “When the sprinkler company turned the water back on, it caused a flood at the property.”
Walter said the Stop Work Order is now in effect for all construction until the owner applies for a Fire Protection System permit (with plans signed off by the township’s Fire Marshal) and subsequently repairs the system.
The restaurant’s identity was revealed by The Philadelphia Inquirer in May. It was initially expected to open in “several months” and has ties to John’s Sushi House in Fox Chase.
More to come.
