Abington Friends School revamps Kicks for Cancer tournament, seeking donations

Kicks for Cancer is an indoor soccer tournament and fundraiser organized by Abington Friends School students. After a pandemic-induced two-year leave of absence, the tournament has been scheduled for April 7, 2023.

The event was founded in 2010 after the passing of Ray Furlong, the father of Abington Friends student Christina Furlong. In honor of Ray’s devotion to Christina and his positive presence on the sidelines
of her soccer games, the varsity soccer team started Kicks for Cancer as an annual fundraiser to bring the community together for a good cause.

Each year since 2010, teams of high school students, teachers, and community members have come together in the AFS gym to play soccer to raise money and awareness for melanoma prevention. The event has raised over $70,000 for the Fox Chase Cancer Center for melanoma research.

Kicks for Cancer is currently seeking sponsorships and donations which can come in the form of monetary contributions, food, or items supporting the event.

Monetary donations can be made via the Kicks for Cancer donation page. Potential sponsors can find more information here. The deadline for sponsorships is January 20, 2023. Please contact kicksforcancer@abingtonfriends.net with questions or for further details about item or food donations.
