The Cheltenham School District is proposing to pay $266,884.60 to former superintendent Dr. Brian Scriven, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported today.

Dr. Scriven resigned in early August following a number of controversies, including charges filed against numerous Cheltenham High School football players and coaches following an external hazing investigation.

According to The Inquirer’s coverage, the school board is expected to vote on a settlement agreement tonight.

Dr. Scriven would also receive payment for “earned but unused vacation leave, sick leave and personal leave,” according to the agreement. School board president Leah Mulhearn said in a statement today that Scriven’s “separation agreement and general release follows Pennsylvania Public School Code, and the settlement is standard.”

“The proposed settlement agreement with Scriven specifies that the former superintendent would make himself available to consult with the district on legal matters, and would be paid if the time spent exceeds 40 hours,” The Inquirer wrote. “If Scriven is named as a defendant and legal representation is provided by the district, however, he would not be compensated for time spent.”

Dr. Christopher McGinley was appointed as interim superintendent on Tuesday, August 18. He became the district’s assistant superintendent in 1999 and then was named superintendent in 2003. He left the district in 2006 before becoming superintendent two years later in Lower Merion, which he led through 2014.
