Wallace Dunbar, Jr., 28, of Philadelphia, was arrested on Thursday, September 3, for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and stealing a bottle of liquor from a Wyncote store.
According to the police complaint, Cheltenham police were dispatched to the Fine Wine & Good Spirits at 8156 Ogontz Avenue at approximately 12:56pm in reference to a report of shoplifting. The arresting officer was advised that Dunbar “steals often” and was recognized from a previous arrest at the same location.
When confronted by police, Dunbar “started to run” before falling on Cheltenham Avenue. During an arrest attempt, he reportedly reached for the officer’s waist near a firearm and “kept trying to wrap me up and take me to the ground in the middle of an activity roadway”, the complaint said. The officer then deployed his taser as Dunbar got up and grabbed his shoe.
Dunbar continued resisting arrest and asked if he could have some of the Tito’s bottle of liquor he had stolen, which was valued at $21.99, the complaint said.
Dunbar’s charges include aggravated assault, resisting arrest, evading arrest, retail theft, receiving stolen property, and simple assault.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
