Cheltenham grad, soccer standout to be inducted into Thomas Jefferson University Athletic Hall of Fame

Chris Williams, a 2002 Cheltenham High School graduate, will be inducted into the Thomas Jefferson University Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 27.

From the announcement:

Williams was a four-year starter, finishing his collegiate career with 2 goals and 5 assists. He earned All-League First Team honors in both 2004 and 2005 and received seven All-Star honors during those seasons. Williams continued his soccer career professionally, playing for the New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia KiXX, Miami FC, and Thisted FC before joining Da Nang FC of Vietnam’s V-League in 2010. In 2012, he played for several teams before joining the Harrisburg Heat that fall, where he tallied 10 goals and 4 assists and earned Co-MVP honors. He later joined the Baltimore Blast and helped the team win the Indoor Soccer League championship, assisting on the game-winning goal. After brief stints with other teams and a short hiatus, he ended his professional career with the PA Roar, where he served as team captain and ranked second in the league in blocked shots. He was inducted into the Southeastern Pennsylvania Soccer Hall of Fame in May 2024. Williams graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree.

“Honored and humbled to be inducted into the Thomas Jefferson University Hall of Fame – Class of 2025,” Williams said in a post. “Grateful for the journey, the teammates, coaches, and family who made this possible.”

According to local historian Chuck Langerman, the Elkins Park native was a four-year starter at Thomas Jefferson (then Philadelphia University) and was named a First Team all-star in both the Philadelphia Soccer Seven and the Atlantic Soccer Conference his junior and senior seasons.

After graduating college with a business degree, Williams began an 11-year professional soccer journey, representing teams such as the NY Red Bulls, Miami FC, San Antonio Scorpions, and various indoor teams including the Philadelphia Kixx, Baltimore Blast, and Harrisburg Heat. He also played internationally in countries like Hungary, Denmark, Vietnam, & Thailand.

In recent years, Williams has been actively involved with Cheltenham Sports.
