Upper Moreland senator Stewart J. Greenleaf now has a PA interchange in his name

State Representative Nancy Guenst, D-Montgomery, recently honored the late Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf Sr. by naming a vital interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike after him.

Route 611 in Upper Moreland Township (Exit 343) is now known as the “Senator Stewart J. Greenleaf Sr. Interchange.”

Senator Greenleaf, who grew up in Upper Moreland, was a longtime state senator who served for many years as the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Greenleaf passed away in February 2021 at age 81. His family was present for the ceremony.

Greenleaf’s career in public service spanned over 40 years. In 1971, Greenleaf was elected as a Commissioner for his hometown. He was elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1976 before being elected to the Pennsylvania Senate in 1978, where he ultimately served for 10 terms until his retirement in 2018.

Guenst said during the ceremony that the late senator was a public servant who “used his power not for partisan purposes, but to reform an oppressive criminal justice system.”

She also commended Greenleaf for his role in the passage of Pennsylvania’s Clean Indoor Air Act and Pennsylvania’s Megan Law.
